5 Best Heat Sealers for Balloons

Spread the word

In conjunction with our article on how to seal foil balloons, Potters Party balloons have provided this review on the 5 best heat sealers for balloons.

In truth, we at Potters Party Balloons only really recommend one product for sealing small foil balloons, but it would unfair for us only to give you one choice and therefore this article is aimed at giving you some genuine alternatives to the heat sealer we actually use.

As per our article on how to heat seal foil balloons, your alternatives actually include genuine Mylar heat sealers, mini food bag sealers or hair straighteners. We, therefore, have taken a look at 2 Mylar heat sealers, 2 food bag sealers and 1 hair straightener.

We have split the article down for the 5 best heat sealers for balloons, allowing you to navigate directly to the heat sealer you are interested in or browse through all the options, as follows : –

Impulse Heat Sealer – Our No. 1 Choice

Now this is the product that we actually use here at Potters Party Balloons.

Impulse Heat Sealer

SupplierAmazon via Potters Party Balloons

Price Range – Medium

Use For – Small Foil Balloons (less than 18″), PP and PE Plastic Food Bags.

Power – Corded Electric.

Potters Party Balloons Summary – A 200mm Impulse heat sealer ideal for sealing your small Mylar balloons and any plastic bags etc. The heat sealer is quick and easy to use, requiring no warm-up time before use and can seal materials up to 0.3mm in thickness, regulating the heating time to ensure a perfect seal. A light on the front of machine indicates when the heat sealer is actually hot.

Generally the reviews are very good for this heat sealer, although there are a few negative comments in amongst the good ones. In our opinion the negative reviews that we have found to be based around a lack of knowledge of actually using the heat sealer for the purpose it was intended. Reviewers are either setting the sealer too hot or too cool! Maybe the instructions need to be clearer!

Here at Potters Party Balloons, we have had no issues with using the impulse heat sealer and would fully recommend it for heat sealing your small foil/Mylar balloons.

Oypla Heat Sealer – A Cheaper Alternative

Very Similar to the product we recommend at Potters Party Balloons, but considerably cheaper for a reason!
Oypla Heat Sealer

SupplierAmazon via Potters Party Balloons

Price Range – Low

Use For – Small Foil Balloons (less than 18″), PP and PE Plastic Food Bags.

Power – Corded Electric.

Potters Party Balloons Summary – An official Oypla branded product which is able to seal any plastic bag made from a thermoplastic material and your small Mylar foil balloons. The heat sealer requires no warm-pp time before use and does self-regulate the heating time during sealing. It has a maximum seal length of 200mm and a maximum seal thickness of 0.3mm.

As per our recommended product, the reviews are actually generally pretty good for this heat sealer with an overall rating of 4 out of 5. The worrying issue is that a few of the negative reviews actually mention safety concerns (such as a burning smell) and some reliability issues. A few negative reviews do exist regarding actually using the heat sealer, but generally we would consider these to be user-error rather than machine-error. i.e. the reviewers are setting the sealer too hot or too cold to do the job properly.

It’s the reliability and safety reviews that concern us here at Potters Party Balloons. The Oypla Heat Sealer is a cheaper alternative for a reason!

GOSCIEN Mini Food Bag Sealer – Multi-Functional Alternative

A portable food bag sealer that could be a real alternative.

GOSCIEN Mini Food Bag Sealer

SupplierAmazon via Potters Party Balloons

Price Range – Low

Use For – Mainly used for PP and PE Plastic Food Bags, but could be used for small foil balloons.

Power – Rechargeable Battery

Potters Party Balloons Summary – The all-singing, all-dancing mini food bag sealer. It even functions as a mobile phone holder!

As a sealer it has 3 modes, for thick bags, normal bags, and thin bags i.e. 3 different heat settings. The cutter is hidden below the sealer for safety, but can be pulled out when you need it. The sealer can be used multiple times based on a full charge. We see absolutely no reason why this product could not be used to seal your small foil balloons.

Most of the reviews are of course based on its ability to seal food bags, but generally the GOSCIEN mini food bag sealer does very well. Quite a few people suggest that it takes a bit of practice to perfect the sealing process.

It’s not the prefect answer to sealing mini foil balloons, but definitely a reasonable alternative.

MOMSIV Mini Food Bag Sealer – The Discount option

A food bag sealer that is the real cheap option.

MOMSIV Mini Food Bag Sealer

SupplierAmazon via Potters Party Balloons

Price Range – Very Low

Use For – Several types of Plastic Food Bags, but could be used for small foil balloons.

Power – Battery Operated

Potters Party Balloons Summary – The cheapest mini food bag sealer that we would possibly recommend. It does also function as a cutter.

It claims to be able to seal any type of plastic or aluminum bag and be easy to use without the need to preheat. Just open the slide cover, press and slide the bag sealer across the food bag to create an airtight seal. It could be used for small foil balloons, but worryingly it does not have different heat settings.

Generally the reviews are based on its ability to seal food bags, and in truth it does OK. There are few reviews that suggest it is cheap and therefore not reliable. It does look like it won’t survive for long in a busy Kitchen or work-area!

It’s certainly not our first choice for sealing mini foil balloons or even food bags, but if your on budget then feel free to give it a go.

BaByliss Hair Straightener – The Trendy Alternative

A top quality hair straightener that could just be the perfect trendy answer to sealing your small Mylar balloons.

BaByliss Hair Straightener

SupplierAmazon via Potters Party Balloons

Price Range – High

Use For – Straightening or curling your hair and just maybe occasionally to seal your small foil balloons.

Power – Corded Electric.

Potters Party Balloons Summary – A top of the range hair straightener and curler. We are not really suggesting you go out and buy this product just to seal your foil balloons, but if you need a new hair straightener anyway then why not consider it has an option.

The hair straighteners has 5 heat settings, but probably you will only need to the lowest setting to seal your balloons. One of particular reasons we like these hair straighteners as an option is the slimline design and the thin irons which may just be perfect for heat sealing balloons.

One of the disadvantages of using hair-straighteners as opposed to a proper Mylar heat sealer is that you need to preheat the hair straighteners before use.

Generally the BaByliss hair straightener has some excellent reviews but this of course is based on what it actually was designed for. i.e. straightening or curling your hair.

If you want a trendy occasional alternative to seal foil balloons then consider these hair straighteners, but generally of course we would recommend using a Mylar heat sealer for continued regular use.

  2. I have never tried any of these products suggested, but I see they could be useful to me because I have found myself needing something like this a few times. I would really love that impulse sealer. I guess it would be ideal for me. I am also glad to know that I could use my hair straightener. I had something all along that could work. I also like the mini food bag sealer with batteries but I wouldn’t go out and buy this. Thank you for this review and also the images you have shared.

This is such an informative article. My brother is having a party for New Year’s Eve and they are going to have a lot of balloons. So I am going to recommend to him the impulse heat sealer for his balloons. I will share this article and your site with him too so he can learn more.

  4. These products are needed for every household. They preserve the freshness of intent, make it easier to carry food, pack. Their design is commendable, I particularly like this green one. I think anyone can find something that suits them. And I learned something new from this article, which is that we can close the bag with a hair press, first make a haircut and then to the cook 🙂

    • I’m glad you learned something Jas. I think sometimes we tend to buy products because of what it says on the box , when we actually already have a solution at hand.  Sometimes it is just a case of thinking a little bit outside the box. Hair straighteners will certainly work for heat sealing balloons and if your only doing it occasionally then we see no reason to go out and spend your money on a specific heat sealer etc
